AKG K450

The AKG K450 are amazing from design to sound. The K450 was the winner of the red dot design award in 2009.

I was looking for a pair of travel headphones. I wanted supra-aural because having those little things (ear buds) pluged to the ears for a long period of time turns to be really unconfortable and anti-hygienic. Another aspect was of course keeping a certain level of good quality sound, is always good to have it when one is with not too much to do for a long period of time.

These headphones are in a closed back design, some people can argue that open back is better, well they may be right but I was actually looking for travel headphones. I don’t want to disturbe the people around me so I need closed back.

They are also single sided cable which is really confortable because with the double sided in the end one is looking like a fly in the spider web and is very nasty! Another interesting aspect of the K450′s cable is that is detachable, I don’t know exactely the use of this but looks nice and gives me the impression that if the cable runs bad one could be able to replace it, that would be nice.

Folding mechanism, one can fold the K450 completely till they are flat and fit in the carrying case, they are really compact for being supra headphones. This aspect is really nice specially for my purpose, travel, because supra-aural normally use a lot of space.

Another important aspect to consider is the ear pads, the K450 are absolutely confortable and they look build in good quality. Not only the ear pads are good quality, the complete product is built in a very nice matte plastic. Maybe the only aspect that is not nice according to the material is the material of the cable, seems that AKG likes to make their headphones with these cables. This is the second time that I have AKG headphones and the first time the cable was not that good, this time fingers crossed because the rest of the product is really nice!

According to the sound. A very clear and crispy overall with enough sound deepness. The highs and lows are pretty clear and in balance (I am not an expert in the topic, sorry if I am not using the exact technical word or concept.).

How about isolation? Do you hear sounds from surrounding?

    • Pablo Dice:

The isolation is really good. It should be back closed but I figured out that if you turn the volume really high then people around you can listen some the music. But yes, the isolation for the user is really good.
